Finally! Thunderbird Addressbook integration!
Thanks to Peter Van der Beken Addressbook integration has arrived in Thunderbird. He has provided/fixed the patch so now it works with the latest trunk. I’ve just build trunk with his patch applied and as you type your recipients address will show you suggestions from your addressbook. Awesome! …all I ever wanted! According to Peter it is not just read-only and not throughly tested yet …so you better backup your data before you give it a try. But I reckon it’s again time to vote for this bug to get it at least committed into trunk! (Yes, yes, yes! :-)
In case someone wants the compiled app – drop me a mail.
Update:
I am still working on a proper build. The current one is a development build that obviously only works on my machine. Will keep you updated.
Canceled: Presidents of the United States
Right now I should be rocking at “The Palace” in St. Kilda and you should be reading a review instead …unfortunately they canceled the show. Crap! I was really looking forward to it! They are supposed to come in September instead but for now I am stuck with a beer and some open source work …not exactly what I usually would expect from a Friday night. Anyway.
Mac Mini vs iMac vs ?
I don’t want to buy a TV as I haven’t watched much TV in the past two years anyway. I have my private movie collection – and that’s about it. So what shoud I
get down here?
I would like have to have some sort of flat lcd display and a media center that will play my mp3s, movies etc. …hm! A Mac Mini plus lcd screen? …or should I go for a iMac
straight away – there is not much of a price difference anymore anyway. (Btw: stupid move, Apple!) But there are a couple of pro/cons of every option.
- Mac Mini G4
- - might no be fast enough for H.264
- - at least sound is not supposed to be good
- - wireless and bluetooth gets extra
- + cheaper as it’s no longer sold by Apple
- + easy to carry back to Germany some day
- Mac Mini Intel Core Duo
- - shared memory graphics card
- - quite expensive
- - first revision
- + fast enough to play all different kinds of media
- + easy to carry back to Germany some day
- iMac 20″ G5
- - if it has really that much less power than a Intel Core Duo it’s too expensive
- - 20″ is not really big for an entertainment unit
- + iSight
- iMac 20″ Intel Core Duo
- - first revision
- - problems with wireless
- - 20″ is not really big for an entertainment unit
- + iSight
Any other suggestions? Any comparable bare bones? A Mac would be just nice because of FrontRow and e.g. CoverFlow and I assume a sleep could be used for a fast on/off. Plus the Macs are meant to be very quiet.
If someone has a comment or other alternatives …please let me know!
Sony Ericsson problems
I know Pier is pretty excited about his new Sony Ericsson mobile …and I was fine with my K750i, too …until this one morning about two weeks ago.
I’ve noticed that my phone was much less stable down here (in Australia). Every now and then it got stuck and I had to reboot it (=remove the battery, wait, put the battery back in). But that very morning not even that helped! It just gave me a white screen …or got stuck just at the logo. After about 20 tries I managed to get a network connection again ….but not for long.
So I called the support hotline. They said since it is a German phone it *might* have some problems with the Telstra network. (Huh!?) He suggested a master reset and a firmware upgrade. If I cannot get it working I have to send it back to Germany as there is no such thing as a world wide warranty for it. They would have to charge me in Australia although it’s only about half a year old.
After fighting with the crappy Sony Ericsson update software I got the new firmware installed. (The updater software insisted that my version of flash was not compatible – but did not even bother to tell me which one was the right one. Installing an old version of the software itself worked in the end) A few days went by and it looked as if my phone was working properly again …until it got stuck again on Sunday.
This time though it did not even bother to turn on at all! Removing the batteries, putting them back in, charging …nothing – just a black screen. I fear I have to check how much the repair will be. This sucks so badly – so far the worst experience I’ve had with any of my phones.
*sigh*
Fortunately a colleague had a spare mobile so at least I am reachable again.
