Wordpress 2.0
Hmmm… I’ve just switched to the new version of wordpress …as you might have noticed. TBH it’s shocking how few innovations they’ve put into the standard install. Guys! Why still categories? Include the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin into the core and get rid of categories! RSS feeds for comments by default please! Maybe I should infect them with all the ideas I have instead of waiting for some spare time to implement something myself. *sigh* …and if you look on how they use mod_rewrite to get permanent links (*puke*) it just reminds you how cool the cocoon sitemap concept is.
Talking about tags …for those who are not subcribed through planet apache: in case you don’t want to read my travel posts and are only after the techie stuff you can also subscribe to tags. The planet feed e.g. is https://vafer.org/blog/"postmetadata">10. January 2006 | Comments | blog, cocoon
Looking for an apartment
The last few days I’ve spent enjoying the weather and adjusting to new timezone. I’ve been driving around looking for the part of town I want to live in. It helped to narrow down my search to Fitzroy (around Brunswick Street) or Richmond. Both suburbs are really nice. Especially Brunswick Street has all these little cafes and that give this special quality of life I like. It’s very alternative area – let’s hope I can find a place around there.
Another mail.app sender
In order to send email with my apache.org address I’ve usually created a real account so you can select it as a sender. Which is of course stupid because there is no apache pop or imap server. The way to do it properly is to just add another email address to your account information. Doh! So simple!
New Blog
Best case you are just subscribed to my old feed and haven’t even noticed the change …but I’ve switched to wordpress. My old blog is still online (for now until I’ve migrated everything) and my old feed is redirected to new one. The theme is still broken so don’t look just yet ;-) …but I just could not stand the old blog anymore. It basically kept me from blogging at all …so new city, new blog.
In Melbourne
This morning I’ve arrived in Melbourne. I am still awake and not giving in to the jetlag. My ichat buddy list reminds me on the different sky down here – other stars are showing up ;-) I am starting to realize that I am not here for just a few weeks project or meeting …it’s kind of a strange feeling!
