Logitech headset freezes OSX

It’s somewhat “encouraging” that Martijn seems to have the exact same problem that I have. At least it’s not just me. Whenever I plugin in my Logitech USB headset it’s very(!!) likely that I have to restart my machine right after. It just freezes OSX. I could not reproduce this on my a Powerbook G4 and it seems also be OK on newer machines with Leopard. But with my current machine running Tiger it’s a PITA.

I’ve opened a support case for this with Logitech. But their final call was “Sorry, no idea. We’ll forward your information to our developers.” Well, I suppose I can live with it a few more weeks until I upgrade to Leopard. Fingers crossed that it will work as expected then.

Update: I’ve also got some feedback via email. Seems like this problem is far more common than one might have thought. Bah!

FWIW, I’m using this Premium Notebook Headset with my Macbook Pro (MacOSX 10.4.11, Tiger) without any problems…

Happens to me too, once in a while. MacBook Pro with Tiger. The good thing is that it unfreezes by itself after a few seconds, probably in less than a minute. So if you resist the urge to push the power button and wait, it might unfreeze for you too.

@Ugo: sometimes it unfreezes for me too …but very rarely

@Bertrand: seems like you are lucky then :) really wondering what the difference is. I am also running 10.4.11

I have the issue when I unplug - on the G5 imac I use at work, still runs Tiger. It use to work but that was before the latest update to 0.11 - it worked fine for me in 10.4.10.

Confirmed to be working fine on Leopard!

I’ve been having the same problem with Tiger 10.4.11. Secided to try some different approaches, and one that has worked SO FAR…only a few tests, and as you say, it doesn’t ALWAYS freeze, so maybe this is just coincidence…the one that has seemed to work so far is: I plug in the headset before turning on (or lifting lid of resting computer)…so far, no freezes. What’s maddening is if I get a skype call while I’m working, and try to plug in, and it freezes…not always, but sometimes.

Post it if you find any dependable solution.

There is one solution that works very well. Upgrade to Leopard :)
